Specializing in rich, vibrant flavors, this cozy restaurant serves up an inviting array of dishes that perfectly balance spicy, tangy, and savory notes, each crafted to delight your palate.
Among the standout offerings is their signature Thai laksa, available in several enticing variations. The Kanomjeen & Rice Set featuring Kanomjeen Lemak combined with Kensom Fish is a must-try – the creamy, slightly sweet and spicy lemak sauce infused with the pronounced aroma of kensom (a Thai fermented fish sauce) is simply unforgettable. Another popular choice is the Rice paired with Kensom, a tangy sour fish curry that bursts with lively, balanced flavors. For those craving something lighter yet equally satisfying, the iconic Somtam (Yam Mama Mama brand noodles with zesty lime, chili, and fish sauce) and Spicy Papaya Salad bring fresh, crisp textures with a fiery kick.
For appetizers, the Tod Mankung – deep-fried prawn cakes – deliver irresistible crunch and succulent prawn flavor, served alongside a sweet and tangy dipping sauce that perfectly complements the dish. The Pad Pak Liang Khai, with its savory stir-fried greens and eggs, highlights the kitchen’s attention to bold but harmonious seasonings passed down through authentic Thai cooking traditions.
The ambience at Ban.Na.Kin is intimate and welcoming, enhanced by warm lighting and unobtrusive Thai music that creates a relaxed atmosphere perfect for casual lunches or dinners. Despite its modest size, the restaurant’s charm lies in its attentive and knowledgeable staff who take genuine care in explaining each dish’s unique profile, helping diners craft their ideal meal experience. As one satisfied guest shared, the owner’s friendly guidance on ordering the authentic Thai laksa with bamboo shoots makes every visit feel like a truly personalized culinary journey.
Customers consistently praise the freshness and quality of the ingredients, noting how every dish is made to order with meticulous care. The small seating capacity may feel cozy, but it adds to the homely vibe that has diners returning time and again. Had a great relaxing time. Did not venture upstairs but downstairs is good enough. Great atmosphere downstairs with superb service. Owner explained the various types of laksa- if you are adventurous, ask for the authentic Thai option with bamboo shoots. Only setback is the limited menu. The speciality here is the Thai Laksa. Can have it plain or mixed with kengsom or green curry. Tried the lemak laksa mixed with kengsom. Superb. Creamy and sourish. Self service fresh herbs and vegetables to add on to the laksa. The basil is fantastic- it's authentic Thai. Also had the green curry with rice. Did not like it initially as it is more liquid/ watery and not as pungent as the ones I usually have. But somehow ended up finishing d whole bowl; guess it is fantastic after all. Best authentic 'Thai' food I had in Alor Setar; the other Thai restaurants here are more 'Thai-Chinese' or 'Thai-Malay'.

The restaurant owner looks Siamese but speaks fluent Mandarin. He was polite & friendly, even explain how the spicy sour soup tastes before I placed my order. The other staffs were also really polite & served the food nicely. Overall, the Thai food was delicious and definitely worth it for a good lunch! *POV: Maybe the restaurant could consider adding a more pleasant aroma, like the fragrance of laksa flower, instead of the current bamboo shoot smell.

I was pleasantly surprised! Cute little shop with music in the background. I tried their Khao Yam which hit the spot. They also let me have some extra veg (usually for the laksa). Their fried pork is delicious too! The staff are wonderful & kind and explained all the different curries available and how we can mix them to suit our taste. Im planning to visit again very soon ◡̈

It was our first time trying Thai laksa and it definitely didn’t disappoint. There is even a self-service ‘ulam’ station to customise your own bowl. For ‘ulam’ lovers like us, we loved it! We also ordered their fried prawn donut, which was very rich in flavour. The Thai milk teas were also made less sweet, and matched our preference. The place is a bit narrow with limited seats. But the staff were attentive and friendly.

At first I was confused by the menu and asked the staff at the counter, she explained it well and I understand what the dishes meant. We Ordered Fried Egg Cham Om, Green Curry Chicken, mixed veggie, Kanomjeen (Thai laksa) with 2 sauce, Kensom Fish, Curry Puff Chicken (charcoal) and Thai milk (green) tea. I forget to take a photo of the Kensom fish, it's quite spicy so it's better to eat it with rice. Overall, everything tastes good and satisfying. Definitely will revisit again for their food!

This was my 5th visit to Ban Na Kin, and I keep coming back for one simple reason — the authentic Thai flavors and consistently high food quality! This round, I tried the Pad Thai, and it was absolutely spot on — well-balanced, flavorful, and perfectly textured. The springy noodles mixed with chili powder, crushed peanuts, and herbs created that wonderful spicy and tangy harmony. Truly a dish worth clapping for! Next up, the Thai-style Laksa with Green Curry — a unique combination that’s hard to find elsewhere. This has become my must-order dish every time I visit Ban Na Kin. The silky-smooth vermicelli coated in rich coconut curry, bursting with aromatic herbs, makes every bite so comforting and satisfying. It always makes my tummy happy! I also ordered two snacks — Fried Shrimp Cake and Fried Pak Liang Leaves with Egg. The shrimp cakes were perfectly crispy and not greasy at all. My mom even packed extra to bring home! As for the Pak Liang leaves — oh my holy moly cow! It was my first time trying them, and they were incredibly fresh, reminding me of Malabar spinach (帝皇苗). What a delightful surprise! And of course, I have to mention the friendly lady boss — her warm hospitality makes the dining experience even more enjoyable. If you’re looking for authentic Thai food in Alor Setar with consistent quality and heartwarming service, Ban Na Kin is definitely a gem worth revisiting!

6 of us had lunch here. Love the casual atmosphere and the homey type of food served here especially the Thai Lemak Laksa. We wanted to give every dish a try, thus ending up ordering almost everything from their menu. Dishes are prepared fresh, as ordered. Love them. Thumbs up to this place
